Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei

Prince Abdul Mateen ibni Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah was born on August 10, 1991, in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. At 32 years old as of 2024, he is the son of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, and Hajah Mariam binti Haji Abdul Aziz.
Similar to his siblings, Prince Mateen received his early education at St. Andrew's School, a Christian school supervised by the Anglican Church in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. He went on to continue his studies at the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College and Jerudong International School for his secondary education.
Prince Mateen's marriage to his spouse, Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah, took place in January 2024 at the grand Istana Nurul Iman in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan. The couple had announced their engagement on December 31, 2023, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
In April 2023, he embarked on the spiritual journey of performing the Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia with his family members, earning the esteemed title of Haji.
Higher education in the United Kingdom
In July 2014, Prince Mateen graduated from King's College London with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Politics. Following this, he continued his education in the United Kingdom and in July 2016, he received a Master of Arts degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. This one-year program equips students with the necessary expertise for careers in global government, non-profit organizations, corporate sectors, or academia.

Founder behind Brunei's Jab Boxing Gym
Prince Mateen's passion for sports, including polo and MMA training, during his time in London inspired him to establish Jab Boxing Gym in Brunei. This boutique boxing gym in Bandar Seri Begawan offers a range of classes, including boxing, cardio, and yoga, providing employment opportunities for locals and allowing Prince Mateen to share his expertise with both instructors and participants. His commitment to promoting fitness and wellness in his community through Jab Gym has made a significant impact on the sports scene in Brunei.
Prince Mateen's love for nature is evident in his choice to reside at Istana Nurul Izzah in Jerudong, where he is surrounded by the beauty of the natural world. In addition to his passion for the outdoors, he also serves as a helicopter pilot in the Royal Brunei Air Force, showcasing his dedication to protecting his country and its people.
